A Steadfast Mind

Isa 26:3-4

“The steadfast of mind you will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in you.” Trust in the LORD forever, for in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock. (NASB)

The Steadfast of Mind:

As we go along on our journey here on earth, we can allow are minds to go into many different places. The way we think is that which controls our actions. We can not think of God or we can think about what he says. Here are the definitions of steadfastness and mind. This will help us to better understand.

Steadfastness:

Stability in commitment or belief. The apostle Paul referred to “the steadfastness of your faith in Christ” (Col 2:5). The loss of stability may be avoided if one will “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). (From Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary)

The Mind:

is the whole attitude and habit of a man as inwardly constituted, i.e., as a being capable of thought and will.is the same, regarded as having a firm hold in itself, and this it has whenever it has a firm hold on God

(From Keil & Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament)

As we meditate on God’s Word and allow it to control our thinking it will give us peace. How many times have you done this? Someone cuts you off while driving. So you think, “what a total jerk, they do not care how they drive or they are just so stupid.” As we keep thinking, about how much we disliked that person’s action we get angry. Then, we allow it to flood over into all of our other relations with people that day. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us and remember what He has taught us. This is how we can have self-control, so that we may show those who do not know Jesus what it means and looks like to be a true believer of Christ. We need to meditate day and night in his word. His Word is perfect and will give us peace.

Prayer:

Lord thank you for your word, your Son, and your Spirit to guide us, teach us and keep us in perfect peaced, if we do as you say in your word. Help me today to keep my mind thinking about the things that please your heart. Please help me to see when my thoughts are going astray and not in line with your word or your Spirit. Help me to gain control over my thoghts today. Thank you for my life.
